Polished Concrete Floors Preparation

Concrete Grind and Seal

Concrete grinding is a process that involves using specialized equipment to smooth and level out concrete surfaces. This process is essential for a variety of reasons, including the removal of surface imperfections, the preparation of surfaces for coatings and overlays, and the restoration of damaged or worn concrete surfaces. By removing surface imperfections such as bumps, cracks, and unevenness, concrete grinding helps to improve the appearance and functionality of concrete surfaces. It also makes it easier to apply coatings and overlays, which can protect the surface from damage and extend its lifespan.

Additionally, concrete grinding can help to restore damaged or worn surfaces, saving the cost and hassle of completely replacing the concrete. Overall, the benefits of concrete grinding are numerous and include improved appearance, increased durability, and cost savings.

What are the finishing options

Concrete Seal

There are several concrete seal options available in Australia. Some of the most popular options include:

  1. Acrylic Sealers - These are water-based sealers that provide a glossy, clear finish. They are ideal for use on interior concrete surfaces such as floors and countertops.
  2. Epoxy Sealers - These are two-part sealers that are highly durable and resistant to chemicals and abrasions. They are often used on concrete surfaces that experience high traffic, such as garage floors and industrial facilities.
  3. Polyurethane Sealers - These are solvent-based sealers that provide a high-gloss finish and excellent resistance to UV rays, chemicals, and abrasions. They are commonly used on outdoor concrete surfaces such as driveways, patios, and pool decks.
  4. Penetrating Sealers - These are sealers that penetrate the concrete surface to provide protection against moisture, stains, and other contaminants. They are ideal for use on exterior concrete surfaces such as sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots.
  5. Decorative Sealers - These are sealers that are tinted with colour or combined with other materials such as metallic flakes or quartz to create a decorative finish. They are often used on interior concrete surfaces such as floors and walls.

It's important to note that different sealers have different properties and are suited for different types of concrete surfaces. It's always best to consult with a professional before choosing a sealer to ensure you select the right one for your specific needs.

Work with an experienced team with more than 20 years in Commercial Concrete Floor Preparation & Polishing

With over 20 years of experience working on all sorts of floors, we know what it takes to produce a great-looking floor.  One of the key reasons we do not take shortcuts in our floor preparation.

Our floor preparation process for commercial concrete floors includes several key steps and these include:

  1. Cleaning the surface: Before any other work can be done, the surface of the existing concrete floor needs to be thoroughly cleaned and cleared of any debris, dust, or other contaminants. This can be done using a variety of methods, including sweeping, vacuuming, or pressure washing.
  2. Repairing cracks and other damage: Once the surface has been cleaned, any cracks, holes, or other damage in the concrete need to be repaired. This may involve filling in the damaged areas with a patching compound or other repair material.
  3. Levelling the surface: After any damage has been repaired, the surface of the concrete floor needs to be levelled to ensure a uniform and smooth finish. This can be done using a variety of techniques, including grinding or milling.
  4. Applying a surface treatment: Depending on the intended use of the space, a surface treatment may be applied to the concrete floor to provide additional strength, durability, or slip resistance. This could include applying an epoxy coating or a sealer.
  5. Final inspection: Once the preparation process is complete, a final inspection should be performed to ensure that the floor is ready for the pouring of new concrete. This inspection should include a thorough review of the surface for any defects or imperfections that could affect the final result.
Work with a skilled contractor who understands the materials and techniques involved, you can be confident that your new floor will be strong, durable, and able to withstand the demands of your space.
